It’s already two days ago, but: happy May Day!

Also a happy birthday to [Nanoc](https://denisdefreyne.com/notes/nanoc/), whose version 1.0 was released on May 3rd, 2007, making it 19 years old.

## Quick bits
* As mentioned [last week](https://denisdefreyne.com/weeknotes/2026-w17/), I’m not participating in my acting course’s final showcase, and I’m also not partaking in the remaining classes, instead giving the time and space to my fellow students who will perform.

- For fucking *years* now, macOS has had this bug where if you try to reveal the menu bar on one screen, it would only show the menu bar on the *other* screen. I’ve not found a way to fix it except for making the menu bar not hide itself. It used to be that macOS was good at handling more than one screen.

- I know I complain a lot about traffic in Berlin, but I saw a car being driven without a license plate this week. Wild.

- Codebases can use a bit of whimsy. This week I added a small funny thing that doesn’t interfere, and might not be found for months or even years.

- [A few months ago](https://denisdefreyne.com/weeknotes/2026-w8/), I talked about how my coworkers value Git hygiene more than at any other workplace I’ve been at. With GitHub getting worse and worse, I’m genuinely appreciating using Git as a standalone tool, and paying good attention to writing commit messages that are meaningful without the context of a pull request. It’s fun to think about a future where we could go back to using just Git, with no web GUI at all.

## Decluttering
I’ve finally finished the first complete round of decluttering. I went through everything!

There still is stuff that I need to either give away or dispose of, but a lot of that stuff I still use for now. For instance, I’m not moving my trash cans (eww), but I can’t get rid of them just yet.

The process of decluttering has been emotionally taxing, but it’s been worth it, because I now am much more aware of what I value, and decluttering has given me a better idea of who I am and who I want to be. Surprisingly existential.

I’ve also found out that the indoor space of my apartment is 58m² rather than the 65m² that I thought I had — that’s me misremembering, and accidentally including balcony space. This gives me hope that I won’t actually need to downsize *that* drastically for my future home in London.
