Current setup

Simple:

John Smith says it is good [@Smith2023Great].

Smith says it is good.¹

(Yep, it moves the superscript beyond the punctation, as it should.)

Drawbacks

• Zotero is a pain in the ass. The automated JSON bibliography export is finicky. There seems to be no real way to distinguish YouTube videos from feature films.

Potential future improvements

Separate YAML files

Keep a YAML file with my own bibliography with customizable items (e.g. specific YouTube videos, podcasts, short stories within collections).

Alternative, keep it in Bear.

Citation links

Markdown already has a link format — [text](http://example.com) — so many having it link to a resource to be cited could work:

[this video](@Smith2023Great) says everything is great.

This video¹ says everything is great.
