Cri, my Ruby library for building command-line applications, has a name that can be interpreted as inappropriate, making fun of the perception of English /r/ and /l/ by Japanese speakers, which is relevant because Ruby is a programming language that originated in Japan. I do not remember the thinking behind giving it that name.
I’ve been thinking about renaming the project. I need a new name, and some time to see it through. The migration process needs to be smooth, and that is not a trivial task.

The Nanoc commit history has the R-word in two commit messages dating back to 2011 and 2012. It was inappropriate and offensive even at the time.
Fixing this is extraordinarily difficult. It would involve rewriting the Git history of the Nanoc repository, which will break every clone and fork. This is an inherent limitation of Git. This approach of fixing the issue would also not be effective; the offensive language would still exist in forks.
