How to approach a script
This is my approach for tackling a scene/play/script — taking into account that I am a total amateur:
-
Read the entire play/script.
-
Figure out the given circumstances.
- For my own character:
- Highlight my lines.
- Highlight anything that other characters say about me.
-
Figure out my overall objective.
- For each scene:
- Figure out the given circumstances.
- Figure out possible scene objectives.
- Figure out possible obstacles.
- Determine possible stakes.
- Determine possible choices.
- Determine the beats.
- Figure out the moment before.
- Determine/inhabit the layout of the space.
