Overall objective

Up: Acting

The overall objective (or super-objective) is the answer to the question: What is the ultimate thing that “I” want from life?

Chubbuck1 gives three requirements for a good overall objective (OO):

  • simple: OO can be expressed in just a few words.
  • basic/primal: OO relates to a core human need (love, survival, self-worth).
  • active: character must be able to actively pursue OO

The overall objective is independent from any other character, unlike the scene objective.

Examples:

  • To be respected
  • To become powerful
